THE TYRANID HIVE - BACKGROUND
Hive Fleet Triphid

SUBJECT: Species record - Tyranid/Tyran/Tyrant/Xenos

COMMON NAME: Tyranids

DESIGNATION: Hive Fleet Triphid

RATING:Caucus Theta

DATE: 0794998.M41

This specific fleet has been designated 'Hive Fleet Triphid' due to the likeness to various plant colourations known to the Imperium. We believe this was a genetic alteration when the Hive Fleet attempted to camoflage itself during its last known sighting on the world of Carpathia. It was recorded that this particular Hive Fleet makes no use of ranged symbiote weaponry. The reason for this is unknown at this present time, but it is speculated that this splinter fleet is used to overwhelm fortified positions and garrisons with its sheer weight of numbers, clearing the way for the larger fleets. Tactically, although at a loss of ranged weaponry, this is by no means a disadvantage. The lesser creatures have evolved their hind legs, enabling them to leap great distances, and this trait is ever present in some of the larger organisms, making them a priority target. The largest of the fleet show advanced mutations allowing them to withstand tremendous amounts of firepower, and spread a toxic pollen amongst the local flora and fauna, rapidly increasing the growth rate. It was also reported that many of the fleets organisms possess the ability to scale almost impossible vertical distances at an alarming rate. Thankfully, praise Him the Eternal, this fleet appears to be based on ground assaults, so is succeptable to aerial counter-strikes. We believe this to be the best method at defeating this stain on Imperial space.
