Biography: Born on the 11th of November 1982 to Michael, a cardiothoracic surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and Sylvia, an English Professor at New York University Daniella was always meant for something more. Or at least that's what she always believed. Her parents were determined that she would graduate high school valedictorian, attend some Ivy League college and then become the first female president. Unfortunately for them, Daniella has never been one to do what was expected of her. From a young age she realised that she was different from her parents. She loved books, just like her mother, but unlike her mother, she didn't want to deconstruct and discuss them, Daniella wanted to re-enact the marvellous events she read about or read aloud a monologue she found particularly appealing. By the time she was seven years old, Daniella Taylor was already dreaming of becoming an actress.
It didn't take long for her parents to catch onto Daniella's passion and instead of squashing it, as the young girl had feared, they encouraged her, dreaming perhaps that she would tread the boards as a Desdemona or Ophelia. Sylvia began to take her to auditions and signed Danni up for a local drama group. From the age of ten Daniella was cast as the lead (or one of the leads) in almost every single one of her school's and the local drama group's productions. It was whilst performing as Abigail Williams in The Crucible when she was only 15 years old that Daniella was spotted by a casting agent and asked to come and audition for a movie they were casting. She didn't get the role but when they were taken by her audition and when it came time to cast Girl, Interrupted the following year, Daniella was one of the first people they called. This time her talent paid off and she was cast as Daisy, a troubled young girl with a history of sexual abuse. It was a difficut role for someone so young (Daniella was only 18 when the movie premiered) yet she carried it off well.
After Girl, Interrupted Daniella began to receive more scripts and attend more auditions and, despite her parents reservations, she decided to leave full-time education and postpone college for the time being. So, instead of signing up for classes at NYU like a lot of her friends Daniella was making movies. Firstly, Almost Famous, in which she played a groupie of fictional band, Stillwater, and for which she received Oscar and BAFTA nominations and won the Golden Globe for the Best Actress in a Supporting Role.
In 2002 Danni made her television debut as the optimistic mechanic Kaylee Frye in Firefly, a sci-fi/western which follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship. Despite showing genuine charm and potential Firefly was canceled after only eleven of the fourteen filmed episodes were aired, a decision which has been blamed on the television companies airing mistakes. However, despite (or perhaps because of) this Firefly has gained a cult following and has impressive fan support campaigns. Due to the post-airing success of the show, Firefly is being made into a feature-length movie (Serenity) to be released in 2009.
Daniella has never been one to play it safe and nowhere is this more evident than in her career. She has shunned blockbusters and big budget movies in favor of taking the smaller, quirkier roles which have earned her a loyal fanbase and have mostly managed to keep her as shielded from the paparazzi as a celebrity in today's culture can be. Daniella is known for being a straight-talking, honest young woman who doesn't tolerate any bull. She has no time for brown-noser's or people who just want to know her because she's famous and her tongue (and its ability to say exactly the wrong thing in interviews) has been known to get Daniella into more trouble than many would think possible.
