![]() Edward Michael Lynch Played By: James Franco. Birthdate & Age: November 3rd 1978 & 29 Residence: Los Angeles, California. Screen name: eds creek. Biography: Edward Lynch is a man of contradictions. Born on November 3rd 1978 in Los Angeles California to Mitchell, an accountant, and Lorelai a receptionist, he never harbored any dreams of becoming an actor. In fact, as far as stories go, his is pretty unique. A smart kid, even from a young age it was obvious that Ed (as he prefers to be known) was going places. Naturally quick-witted and inquisitive he excelled at his studies, spending much of his time as a young boy locked up in his bedroom discovering all manner of fictional worlds, from Dickens to Tolkien. A member of both the debate and swim teams and with a permanent place on the honor roll it was in his capacity as class clown that most of Ed's peers knew him. Making people laugh came naturally to the young boy and he took great delight in practical jokes, many of which were taught to him by his elder brother, Joe. By the morning of his high school graduation (he was, unsurprisingly, valedictorian) Ed's future was all mapped out. He would spend a year away volunteering in Africa and then return to the States in order to take up his place at Georgetown to study European history. He had a bright future ahead of him, everyone agreed, Ed included. The first part of his 'plan' went by flawlessly and he spent a wonderful year volunteering in Africa and returned to America with a lot more life-experience under his belt. It was when he had returned and was back at home with his parents for a few weeks before college started that Ed's then-girlfriend, an aspiring actress, asked him to accompany her to an audition. The audition was for a teen sitcom, something he took little interest in, but went along to lend support anyway. Whilst there, one of the casting agents obviously decided that they liked the look of him and asked Ed to audition. Despite thinking it was a bit ridiculous, he did so and was amazed when they offered him the role then and there. It was the offer of a lifetime and Ed didn't even have to think twice. He turned them down - after all he had his 'plan' - and went on his way. A month later and everything changed. Away at college, Edward's relationship with his girlfriend (a relationship which had survived his time in Africa) dissolved, as did his parent's 25-year marriage and with college life proving to be something of a disappointment when the Dawson's Creek casting agents got back in touch, asking Ed if he wouldn't reconsider as they had yet to cast the role, he decided to take a chance, left college on a whim and signed the contract. He has never looked back. No matter what he might say now, back then Edward had no idea, when he was reading through the script for the pilot episode that what he had in his hands was television gold. From the moment the first season aired there could be no mistaking that Dawson's Creek. The four friends wormed their way into the heart of their audience and it wasn't long before Ed was being stopped on the street, being called Pacey, and asked for autographs. It wasn't long before the scripts started to arrive, everyone wanting a part of the Dawson's success but it wasn't until 1999 that Edward Lynch made his big screen debut in as Chris 'Oz' Ostreicher in the teen comedy, American Pie. Part gross-out comedy and part 'coming of age' the story of four friends pledging to lose their virginities before graduation was a hit around the world and has since spawned a series of like-minded films, although Ed has only reprised his role as Oz in one of those sequels (American Pie 2 in 2001) After six seasons and five wonderful years, Dawson's Creek finally came to an end in 2003, leaving Ed without steady employment for the first time since he had quit college. Initially a little unsure of what he would do, he signed onto every movie that came his way with the result that he soon became a teen romcom staple, appearing in as the male lead in both A Cinderella Story and Bring It On. About halfway through shooting these Ed realized that given the amount of scripts he was being offered he did, in fact, have a choice and quite a viable future in the movie business. This epiphany didn't change much and few people noticed the subtle changes in the type of films Ed was saying yes to. His turn as the wheelchair bound, Roland, in 2004's Saved! marked a turning point in Edward's career and it is one of the few films he is extremely proud of. Saved! was followed by a short storyline arc as badboy Troy Vandergraff in Veronica Mars and Johnny Storm/Human Torch in Ed's first action movie, The Fantastic Four. The following year, Ed appeared in the small yet vital role as Benjamin Danz in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and then the following year as long-suffering boyfriend Nate in the much anticipated adaptation of Lauren Weisenberger's The Devil Wears Prada. It was in 2006 that things really began to change for Ed. It was in that year that he met his best-friend and platonic life partner, Kady O'Brien on the set of her TV show Firefly (he guest-starred as the uppity Atherton Wing in an episode) and, perhaps most importantly, it was also the year in which he returned to television full time. Edward had heard rumors of a big ensemble show being put together but knew of nothing solid until his agent phoned him one day to say that he had an audition for what looked to be a really interesting show. A first read over the script confirmed what his agent had said, it was fantastic, and Ed immediately knew that he wanted to be cast in the show more than anything else. Initially auditioning for the role of Sylar, he was a little shocked when they asked if he would mind trying for Peter instead, but decided to go ahead and give it a try. Evidently Ed did something right as two weeks later he received a phone call informing him that he had been cast. Since it's premier in 2006, Heroes has become a worldwide phenomenon and has made it's actors into superstars, recognized wherever they go. This new level of celebrity has taken Ed quite a while to get used to and he is still somewhat taken back by it all. However, at heart he still maintains his childhood passion for good books, a fascination with history and a slightly immature love of practical jokes. |
