Our aim is to provide a comprehensive site dealing with the doctrinal, logical,
social and emotional issues regarding Civil Same-Sex Marriage. Any
suggestions for new essays or general improvement of the site are enthusiastically
welcomed. Please drop us a line regarding any questions, comments, criticisms, concerns, kudos
(or any other "K" sounding word) which you may have. Thanks again for stopping by.
We are NOT...advocating that same-sex couples be allowed to be
sealed in the temple. See our essay on this very subject
here.
We are simply advocating that same-sex couples be allowed to have legally recognized
CIVIL / Non-LDS ceremonies that would be recognized by federal,
state and local governments as
being legally binding with all of the same rights and responsibilities that
straight couples have. This has no effect on the status of such couples regarding
churches. These weddings could be performed at City Hall, in their own same-sex
friendly churches, on the beach, in a park or even by an Elvis impersonator at a drive-thru wedding
chapel in Las Vegas, etc...just as straight couples do today.
This page will have the word "Civil" both in italics and underscored
to emphasize that we are only speaking about Civil rights pertaining
to our secular government and NOT the Church. Many of our
critics fail to grasp that distinction.
Our contention
is that Civil Same-Sex Marriage is in no way contrary to the
U.S. Constitution nor official LDS doctrine (the Scriptures). The efforts of those
opposing Civil Same-Sex Marriage, however, are contrary to the
Scriptures, both ancient and modern. We try to
address the questions and concerns of those, mostly active LDS members, who
disagree with our stance. Those who agree or disagree, legally, logically or
doctrinally, are invited to share their thoughts, questions and concerns.
We are simply asking that we all "reason together" (D&C 50:10-12) as the Lord says here and as Joseph Smith
suggests when he stated -
"If I esteem mankind to be in error, shall I bear them down?
No. I will lift them up, and in their own way too, if I cannot persuade them my
way is better; and I will not seek to compel any man to believe as I do, only by
the force of reasoning, for truth will cut its own way."
(Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, selected and arranged
by Joseph Fielding Smith [Salt Lake City: Deseret Book Co., 1976], 313.)
