biography Born Leonard Robert Kingsley II on July 31st, 1973, Leo King lived his life on a rural farm in Adel, Iowa. Leo was trouble from the beginning, and brandished a fierce attitude before he was fully able to prove himself. He was the middle child of five; the first son of Leonard Sr., and he was by no means spoiled. Leo had a strained relationship with his father from what seemed like the start, and he was always finding ways to piss the old man off. In high school, he picked up guitar quickly versus concentrating on his studies and his job at a pig farm down the road from his home. With a few of his buddies, Leo started a rock band and ran off to Chicago frequently to party. By the time he was seventeen, Leo was being thrown out of his home due to a brewing drug issue and problem with violence. His God-loving rural family no longer peaked his interests, and he escaped on what little money he'd earned as a small-time drug dealer. Leo made his way to LA with a new band, picking up the lead vocals to what was once referred to as "Glimmer Days". Under the name, they weren't taken seriously as an alternative grunge/metal band, so Leo opted for the name "Per diem". In 1996, at 22, their first album "666" hit the shelves with moderate success in the underground world of music. It wouldn't be until the year 2000 did Per diem receive mainstream success, and even then, it was under the controversy of their single "Jesus Christ Pose". That same year, Leo married punk musician, Abernathy Gold. The two hit it off as a couple in early 1998, but had been best friends since childhood. They shared a love for drugs, however, and soon the narcotics were enough to damage the relationship from the inside out. Abernathy overdosed in 2005 while pregnant with the couple's first child and was found dead in their LA home. Leo did not recover from the incident and instead of reaching out for help, he spiraled down. Per diem temporarily disbanded, kicking Leo out until he could get his act together. However, in 2007, Leo was arrested for possession of heroin and carrying an illegal firearm. After some haggling with the judge, Leo was given a shorter sentence of nine months in High Desert State Prison of Nevada. In that time, Per diem reunited and Leo wrote an entire album. He is currently out of prison, his latest album debuting in May, 2009 and earning a substantial amount of credit. The band is now on tour, and Leo still battles his raging drug addiction.
