![]() Representative Gregory Nathaniel Miers Played By: Rahm Emanuel Birthdate & Age: 10/12/1964 [44] Screen name: king miers Biography: Gregory Miers didnt have the most traditional of childhoods. One of three boys, the Miers household was always one of constant activity. Be it sports, clubs, or simply their parents dragging them around to different activities around the city, the Miers boys were never left idle. As second generation immigrants, Thomas and Elyse Miers made sure the boys were constantly aware of just how good they had it. This, combined with the political history of the family (Gregs grandfather and father were both worked in government) assured that dinners were never boring. Indeed, from a young age, Gregory and his brothers learned how to argue their points or not speak at all. This was the foundations for a man that was to become a United States Congressman, and a rather infamous one at that. Throughout his childhood, Gregory attended local private schools in Boston (first Milton Academy and later Belmont Hill, both of which were famous for having educated the Kennedys). When it came to choosing a college, however, Gregory went public. Working towards a pre-law degree in public relations, Greg made sure never to swerve too far out of control, and while he occasionally went out and partied like the average college student, he also held down a job at the University of Alabama bookstore and then a bartending position at Eagans bar near campus. Gregorys sister was also born during these years, and while he would never grow too close to the girl, he did dote on her when he returned back from breaks. When he graduated, it was with a 3.9 and honors. Without hesitation, Gregory accepted a spot at Duke Universitys law school. This, too, provided to be something he excelled at. Internships at the Hendrick-Murray and Foley-Hoag law firms were taken, and through sheer hard work and determination, Gregory moved his way up to the top of his class. It was also during these years that the first true test of Gregorys life would come. On a family hunting trip, Gregorys brother Iason misfired his gun, hitting Gregory in the hand. The shot would pulverize the middle finger of Gregs hand, and though the hospital was able to save half of the finger, the damage was still done. Gregory wouldnt speak to Iason for the better part of three years. The shot would also throw Greg out of commission. Unable to write with his proper hand, Gregory would struggle in school and eventually ended up taking the Semester off. When he did return, however, it was with more determination than ever. Gregory would graduate one semester late, but land a position at the prestigious firm of Glousten & Storrs. For the next 8 years, Gregory would work his way up in the firm. More importantly, though, it was at this firm that he would meet Nicole Remington. A nice girl from a good family, Nicole was everything Gregory ever wanted in a wife and while it wasnt love at first sight, they certainly hit it off well enough. The two were engaged almost a year after meeting, and by the end of their second year, the couple was married. By the end of 2000, Gregory was offered the position of partner, had a newborn baby girl named Madison and was more in love with his wife than most men were with their mistresses. Life couldnt get better, and yet after speaking with Nicole, Gregory ended up turning down the partner position and quitting his high-paying job as a lawyer. A practicing Catholic, Gregory believed in giving back, and in an attempt to do just that as well as get more time to spend with his family, Greg decided to join Work For Progress, a non-profit organization. The decision rocked the east coast social circle, where the Miers family was considered the neo-Kennedys. Everyone had assumed that Greg would always go into politics, but the move seemed be a step backwards. Outwardly, Gregory kept with his first reasons for joining the organization. Inwardly, however, he was still dreaming about politics while Nicole constantly reminded him about the strain this would cause. For all intents and purposes, it seemed as though Gregory would have to stay content to have his happy little family and not-for-profit job. Everything in Gregory Miers world would change on one balmy day in 2005. What was supposed to be a routine physical turned into tragedy when Nicole's sudden and random weight loss was diagnosed as liver cancer. Though she was given three months to live, Nicole would be gone in twenty short days, leaving Gregory in a state of shock with a young daughter and outrageous hospital bills. If it hadnt been for Nicole's last words and the closeness of the next election, he may have stayed in this tailspin for longer. Instead, Gregory took Nicole's advice to finally follow his dreams. Despite all advice, Gregory quickly threw together a political campaign. The state of Massachusetts fell in love with the handsome young widower and his darling little daughter, and against all odds Gregory won the state Congressional seat running as a republican. Avery Campbell, an ambitious young nanny, was hired to take care of Madison while Gregory worked out the logistics of the move to Washington. Though he very easily could have slacked off his first years in the house, Gregory instead instantly dove into the scene and made a splash. In just three short years, Gregory has earned himself a reputation as a House pit bull and the lone light of hope in the Republican Party. He can be ferocious and sweet, threatening and kind. Fiercely loyal and unrelentingly passionate, Greg has found success in the midst of a political climate turned against Republicans and while many criticize his tactics, it is undeniable that he has gotten things done. Though the next elections arent until 2012, Miers is highly favored to win. Since the start of 2009, he has also been offered the position of the head of the Republican National Committee, a role he originally turned down in order to keep a balance between his personal and professional life. However, after a series of rather fortunate events, Gregory found himself not only married to the woman of his dreams (Avery, as it turned out), but also able to take on the position as head of the NRCC. d Credits: For credits, please see: http://h1.ripway.com/miers/credits.html Other stuff: For more information, please see: http://miers.insanejournal.com/473.html#cutid1 For examples, please see: http://avac.insanejournal.com/5268.html For in-character twitter, please see: http://twitter.com/gregorymiers |
