Our owners are Ashlyn, Erin and Taylor, and they are here to make sure things stay fun and active. While we don't like rules, we feel that some are necessary to keep Outstanding running efficiently. Please follow them -- we're not doing this to be difficult. They're for the benefit of everyone, so please cooperate.
- Be respectful to everyone on this RPG.
- No powerplaying/godmoding/whatever you want to call it, unless, of course, you have prior consent from the person you're role-playing with.
- Don't RP anything above our rating -- absolutely no sexual content (it can be said or implied, but not played out). Also, we expect images to be appropriate.
- You must wait to be accepted before posting, even if you're already a member.
- Please only join characters you plan on keeping active.
- Be realistic. We can't stress this one enough - it's been a huge problem. Your characters can't read minds, they can't frolic with unicorns or dragons or giants, and they can't speak to animals. Hogwarts students will not be in Hogsmeade or London during the school year except under special circumstances (Hogsmeade weekends, internships, etc.) -- and all of these will be announced by the admins. If you post in these places when you're not supposed to, we may delete your posts without warning.
- There will be no students transferring from other schools. If you join a student, we will all assume they have attended Hogwarts since their first year. If you're really set on having your character be from somewhere else, you must get admin approval (you can ask us on the inbox). If you're joining a new character, we encourage you to plot with other members to form some sort of a history for your character.
- No, your character can not have a pet unicorn, wolf, tiger, giant, leprechaun, rabid rabbit...you get the picture. Students can have an owl, cat, rat, snake, or toad. Graduates can have anything realistic they want. If they work with dragons, that's one thing, but nobody has a dragon for a pet. Capeesh?
- Keep within the timeline. Harry et co. just graduated, so that puts us around 1998. As awesome as it would be for our characters to listen to the same music we do, keep in mind that many of our modern bands didn't exist at that time. They also didn't have iPods and mp3 players and all of that cool stuff. Pity them.
- As for specials and canons: We understand that specials are high-demand. Unfortunately, we have to keep a limited number of each type (werewolf, half-veela, metamorphmagus, animagus, seer, and parselmouth) available. You can find the number available on the join page. To get one of these specials or a canon position, you must supply a sample post, even if you're already a joined member. If you're trying for a special, your sample must be of your character using this special ability. Because these spots are so limited, we want to make sure the members who play them are up to the challenge. See additional details on the join board.
- Before auditioning for a canon character, please check the canon list or characters pages to see if they're still available. If they're not on the canon list or on the characters pages, feel free to audition them anyways! Also, if your favorite character is already taken, don't be discouraged -- keep checking back; their player may decide to quit them.
- Yes, you are free -- and encouraged! -- to join characters that have already graduated. Just keep in mind that they will not be interacting with Hogwarts students unless the students are on vacation or the graduate works at Hogwarts.
If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to ask on the chat or inbox boards.
