911 service in Russell County is a consolidated dispatch center located at the Russell Police Department. All calls for service, within Russell County, are directly dispatched from the 911 center. Dispatching is provided to:

  • The Russell Police Department
  • Russell County Sheriff's Department
  • Nine Rural Fire Departments
  • Russell City Fire Department
  • Two County EMS services
  • Animal Control

The 911 Center houses state-of-the-art computer aided dispatch equipment that allows dispatchers to handle calls quickly and effectively. The 911 Center serves a population of approximately 8,000 citizens.

The 911 Center employs eight full-time dispatchers and one supervisor. The 911 Center is a division of the Russell Police Department under the supervision of the Chief of Police. Financing of the 911 Center is a joint effort between the City and the County. Equipment for the center is paid through a monthly $0.75 telephone tax charged to all land-based telephones in Russell County.
