The City of Russell Animal Control Warden responds to calls of neglected, lost or nuisance animals. The warden protects stray, injured, abused or neglected animals. Long gone is the image of a dog catcher with a butterfly net. The Animal Control Warden now performs a variety of services that helps animals and citizens of Russell - controlling stray and potentially dangerous animals, containing "at large" animals, bringing lost pets back to their owners or a shelter and investigating reports of animal neglect or abuse. .

LOST PETS:  If you lost your pet please call 483-2121 to notify the Animal Control Warden. The warden will attempt to return dogs or cats found at large, that have a current city license and microchip, to their owners. If ownership cannot be determined due to lack of a current City license and microchip, the animal will be impounded at Russell Veterinary Service, 904 S. Fossil or phone 483-5822.

ANIMAL BITES:  Please report all animal bites immediately to the Animal Control Warden. If possible try to identify the animal and it's owner or the animal's description and last known location so that it may be captured and held for rabies observation. Do not try to capture the animal yourself. The warden has special equipment ofr this purpose. For more information on animal bites and rabies click here
