The City of Russell Animal Control Warden responds to calls of neglected, lost or nuisance
animals. The warden protects stray, injured, abused or neglected animals. Long gone is the image of a dog catcher with a butterfly net. The Animal Control Warden now performs a variety of services
that helps animals and citizens of Russell - controlling stray and potentially dangerous animals, containing "at large" animals, bringing lost pets back to their owners or a shelter and investigating reports of
animal neglect or abuse. .
LOST PETS: If you lost your pet please call
483-2121 to notify the Animal Control Warden. The warden will attempt to return dogs or cats found at large, that have a current city license and microchip, to their owners. If ownership cannot be
determined due to lack of a current City license and microchip, the animal will be impounded at Russell Veterinary Service, 904 S. Fossil or phone 483-5822.
ANIMAL BITES: Please report all animal bites
immediately to the Animal Control Warden. If possible try to identify the animal and it's owner or the animal's description and last known location so that it may be captured and held for rabies
observation. Do not try to capture the animal yourself. The warden has special equipment ofr this purpose. For more information on animal bites and rabies click here
COMMON ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE VIOLATIONS:
1. Dog at Large: Animals must be contained on
your property or controlled by a lesh when of your property. Owners may receive a citation for animals found repeatedly at large.
2. Nuisance: Please keep your animals from
becoming a nuisance in your neighborhood by keeping your yard and/or pen clean - and by keeping your pet as quiet as possible.
3. Numerous Animals: There is a limit of four
(4) cats and/or dogs per household. A litter under five months old is an exception.
4. Licensing: Every cat and dog over the age of
five (5) months must have a current city tag and microchip implant. These can be purchased at any local veterinarian. City licenses may also be purchased at the City Building.
5. Care and Treatment: Pets must be provided
with wholesome and nutritious food, potalbe water, shelter from inclement weather and veterinary care necessary to prevent suffering.
