The Polaroid Corporation and the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children developed project Kid-Care ID. It was the first comprehensive program to educate families about child safety issues and encourage parents to maintain current standardized photographs of their children.
This free kit provides a Polaroid photo in a passport style identification folder with protective sleeve. It contains vital information to assist law enforcement in the case of a missing child. With this
booklet, parents would be given some "peace of mind" in knowing that they had appropriate information available should their child be lost or abducted.
This program is highlighted each year during the Russell County Free Fair. With the help of Russell VFW Post #6240 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, over 250 kits are completed each year at the fair. Because of the
outstanding success of this event during the fair, we offer Kid-Care ID Kits year-round at the Police Department.
The Russell County Attorney's Office and the Russell Police Department provide funding for the purchase of the Kid-Care ID. Kits, which averages $1,500.00 per year.
