Biography: First of two, Jakob Martin Barclay was the only son born to Grace and Martin Barclay of Enniskillen, Ireland. A town nestled snuggly in the emerald fields and fences made of stone, the small hamlet was picturesque and sleepy at best, though it was wrapped up in the ongoing Troubles with the English Soverign. The first five years of Jakob's life were pleasant. Something that was stereotypical of his people and his homeland. Sunday school, uniforms and a rosary with a Hail Mary spoken at every turn. Jakob's first foray into music came during these formative years as well, starting with a piano lesson held in the house of his Parish's first priest. Father Frost at one point claimed to be a pianist for the American musician Lawrence Welk. Jakob had no idea who Lawrence Welk was, but if the piano was the same instrument that the man with the funny glasses and the cool "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" played, then that's all he needed to know. After attending mass on Sundays, Jakob would spend two hours a week playing on the 88s with Father Frost in the walls of the small town cathedral. Now is the time when we say something cliche, such as it was like a fish to water. While now he's a wiz and is able to riff and bend the music to exactly what he wants it to be, that first year of lessons was most likely torture to the musically savvy priest.
The year of lessons would be his only in Enniskillen. With the coming birth of his baby sister Esther, the entire family packed up and moved away from the embattled Northern states to the growing urban sprawl that was Dublin. This was something that was not easy for Jakob's father. People he grew up with, who knew him honestly and truthfully instantly labeled him as a traitor and a coward for not staying to stick it out and send his children off to fight in the glory of the revolution. He wanted none of this. And the relocation to Dublin was a surprisingly smooth transition. Jakob found piano lessons very quickly, trading a priest for a nun who might have been a bit stricter, but still engrained in him the musical practices that Jakob still employs to this day. His father's feelings about moving to the city were confirmed when in 1987, Enniskillen was bombed on Rememberance day and 11 people were killed. The bombing occured just blocks from his father's old auto shop. Sister Esther came in 1988 and Jakob instantly took to her, loving the new found role of a big brother. The two have always been close and he'll always keep an eye out on her, no matter what might in his busy life.

Only a select few know of Jakob's teenage years. His parents divorced during this time and he was divided between two houses. He has his reasons for keeping it as secretive as it is right now. While he's said he has planned to reveal everything when the time is right, there does not seem to be any indication that it will be in the near future. During this time though, he literally did fall off the face of the earth. Only showing himself at sporadic times with his father and sister. During this time he still played piano and even did some singing, but it was still a period of obscurity for Jakob.

Resurfacing when he was 22, the Irish lad would emerge with a powerful tenor voice and a musical piano skill that was unsurpaced in his neighborhood. Almost something like a Robert Johnson resurgence, this dedication to his skill suddenly found him popular in the local music scene. Over time, he had a reputation for being a very dependable rock pianist who had a rich voice, but never quite found the right people to create a full group with. This would all change when he filled in a colleague who backed out of a gig when his wife went into labor. Jakob took his piano position with Jim Evans on drums, Declan Mack on Guitar and Adam Hewson on Bass. That night's performance had Declan performing vocals, but eventually Jakob was asked to sing a few old Rolling Stones tunes. And it was clear that something was in their hands. The group won a local talent show six months later, having spent the down time before the show practicing and rehearsing until they had almost a whole library of their own material to draw upon. Much of the set they performed at the talent show would then be used to record and showcase on their self titled debut album, which was released in Europe in late 2002. Their first single "Run" shot to #1 in the United Kingdom and was their breakthrough hit in the United States, reaching the top five. As the band matured and as they continued to play, as a whole they started to define a more mature sound and a more distinctive style as well. Their latest release, "Eire," entered the United States charts at #1, reaching the same position in over 30 countries.

With the image and the fame, Jakob has also taken up philanthropy and charity work. In 2008, the final paper work was drawn and signed to officially found The Clover Foundation, a group the specializing in the support and aide to families recovering from war torn parts of the world that are affected by sectarian violence. Starting small with those who still are reeling from the IRA, PIRA and RIRA in Ireland, Jakob had bigger plans for the group, knowing that the best way is to start small and build from there. And the sky is the limit...

Other stuff: Just a general note to all, I get on AIM when I can, but I do theatre by night and I'm usually in rehearsal or a show night for any one of the various things I've got going on. But I'm a thread-happy panda and am easy to get a hold of via PMs!
